A Few Tips & FAQ

  • When recording the full Audiobook, we recommend starting with 60 or 90-minute sessions. The goal is to keep your energy consistent so the experience for the listener is also consistent.

  • Practice reading parts of your book out loud, even if you are very familiar with the text.

  • Using a device such as a tablet or laptop and a mouse with a ‘silent’ scroll helps eliminate extraneous noises.

  • Questions? Schedule a Zoom call with us and we’ll show you how easy the process can be.

Q: What is the Demo Session process like?

Our Demo Sessions are designed to provide the full experience of a recording session without committing to the entire Audiobook project. From these sessions, our team can provide you with a detailed analysis of the session and a customized estimate of the costs and time for the complete Audiobook.

When you schedule a Demo Session with us, you have the option to record at one of our local studios or with a professional recording kit we deliver to your location. We strongly recommend reading from your laptop (with a silent mouse) or one of the tablets provided at our locations. Using physical books adds significant noise and will likely increase the edit time of the project.

At the time of the session, our producer will join you remotely over Zoom and assist with any questions to ensure the recording goes smoothly. We encourage you to come to the studio (or join the call) about 10 minutes prior to the recording time.

Once you're ready, the producer will ask a few short questions and track the recording as you read through a portion of the book. Many readers start from the introduction, but you're welcome to read from any part of the book you prefer. Audio from the demo often qualifies toward the final Audiobook as well.

Following the recording, you will receive a detailed review of the session and estimate for the full Audiobook project.

Details include average read speed, projected recording time, final runtime of the Audiobook, recording and editing costs, and personalized tips based on takeaways from the demo.

Q: Do I have to record my own book?

This is totally up to you. Most authors we work with have also narrated their Audiboook. If you have someone who you would prefer be the narrator, you can both be together (in-person or remotely) during the Demo session.

Q: Do people go off script?

In some ways, yes. This primarily occurs when part of the text would interrupt the Audiobook listening experience, such as graphics or exhaustive lists. Checking for those elements ahead of the recording can help forumulate ways to convert for the listener. Our producers are also experienced in navigating those spots during the session.
